Oct 29.2011 - Parmand Telecom - Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has broken the ground for an aerospace technology park, dubbed “kahkeshan” (Galaxy), in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

“Inaugurating the technology park is an important step towards creating synergy among different sectors of aerospace industries," Vahidi was quoted as saying on the sidelines of the ceremony Wednesday.

The Iranian defense minister added that Aerospace industry is one of the areas for which the Defense Ministry has many plans.

Almost USD100 million has been dedicated to the construction of the “Kahkeshan” space technology park.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the area of aerospace technology, building and placing several satellites in orbit.

A founding member of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space -- set up in 1958 -- Iran launched its first domestically manufactured satellite, Omid (Hope), on a home-built Safir-2 rocket on February 2, 2009.

The telecommunication satellite highlights Iran's name as the ninth country to develop satellite launch capability in the world.

Tehran also plans to launch the country's first manned mission to space by 2019.
